Welcome to Homeschool Art Class!
Is your student interested in increasing their art and creative skills through focusing on technique? Homeschool Art Class is designed to meet that need!
Homeschool Art Class is open to students in Grades 5 and up (a Grade 4 student might be able to join in with permission from the instructor - please email us at rivertowncac@gmail.com to express interest).
Each session will focus on a particular medium or form, such as Watercolor Painting, Digital Art, Three Dimensional Art, and more. Each session costs $20 per student and includes 4 classes.
Pre-registration is required, and space is limited to ensure students are able to work closely with the instructor.
Please note: Classes in each session include guided instruction from 2-3pm, and students are welcome to work independently on their projects from 3-4pm at no extra charge.
Fall Session #1: Introduction to Watercolor Painting - September 14, 21, 28 and October 5.
Explore 18 different watercolor techniques over four weeks. Students will work on guided exercises and activities from 2pm-3pm, and will also have an opportunity to continue working independently from 3pm-4pm at no extra cost.
Fall Session #2: Filling Our Sketchbooks - October 26, November 2, 9, and 16
This session is all about practicing our drawing skills utilizing a variety of exercises, experimentation, and play. Students will have guided activities to help fill those pages, along with prompts and encouragement for filling pages with whatever they're most interested in drawing.
Winter Session #1: Three Dimensional Art and Sculpture - December 7, 14, 21, and 28
This session will give students the opportunity to learn about taking ideas floating around in their creative brains and forming them into solid structures, from brainstorming to sketching to planning to implementation. Students will work with paper mache, clay, and cardboard, using various techniques and armature to form structures of their own design.
Winter Session #2: Acrylic Painting - January 11 and 25 and February 1 and 8
Acrylic Painting will focus on traditional painting techniques using acrylic paint, brushes, and acrylic paint markers to create art on mixed media paper, canvas, and fabric. Students will also learn the "pros and cons" of acrylic painting versus oil painting and watercolor, and will also have the opportunity to experiment with gauche paint.
Winter Session #3: Digital Art - March 1, 8, 15, and 22
Digital Art will explore the world of digital illustrating apps on iPads, featuring both guided exercises using a variety of brushes and techniques, plus plenty of time for playing around and experimenting. Students can bring their own iPads - plus a digital pencil - if they have them, but they are not required, as Rivertown has equipment available for use. If students are bringing their own iPad, please contact us at rivertowncac@gmail.com so we can provide instructions on what apps to download prior to class.
Spring Session: Portraiture - April 26 and May 3, 10, 17
This session will focus on how to draw portraits of people and pets through sketching and finer drawing techniques, along with painting portraits with acrylic paint brushes and markers.
